Deersville Improvement & Historical Preservation Society, Deersville Ohio

Deersville Improvement & Historic Preservation Society (DIHPS) was formed in 1994 as successors to the original 1913 Deersville Improvement Association, which was responsible for building the Community Hall where we presently meet. Our mission statement is to improve Deersville and also preserve its history, not only of the buildings and homes that remain but also of the people who lived here and who have added to the rich history of America.

Our most recently completed project is the addition of a covered entrance to the Theater portion of the Community Hall. This was a joint effort between the Deersville Community Players Guild and the DIHPS, along with a generous grant from the Knights of Pythias.

One of the many projects completed by the DIHPS was the restoration of the Old Deersville cemetery located behind the Methodist Church on Main Street. It still needs some help, but it's come a long way.

In November we enrolled in Ohio's Adopt-a-Highway Program for litter control. We take care of a two-mile stretch located on SR 799 running along Clendening Lake just South of Deersville. ( Another of the Muskingum Watershed Conservative District projects)

In March of 2007, we had 34 Japanese Tree Lilacs planted randomly throughout Deersville. They flower (May and June) in time for the return of the campers to Tappan Lake Park.
